Top 5 Supplements for Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is not easy, but it sure is effective. Intermittent Fasting (IF) is a diet strategy where you have an eating window (8-10 hours) and then a fasting window (14-16 hours) each day. For more information regarding this diet strategy and its effectiveness, click here.

If you are one of the many who are adopting this new eating strategy, supplements can really help you optimize your results. Here are the Top 5 Supplements for people using Intermittent Fasting as their diet.

1. BCAA's

When you are in a fasted state, you cannot have anything with calories. This can become very difficult when you have a bad day and feel starving. It also can cause some unnecessary muscle breakdown to support the body. Enter BCAAs - the savior to both of those issues. Branch Chain Amino Acids will be 0 calories and prevent muscle breakdown when consumed. They will help satiate you so you can make it to your eating window.

Example: Man Sports ISO Amino

2. Fat Burner

Most people that use IF choose to do so for the purpose of losing weight. If you read the article above, you already know that it can speed up your metabolism by 20%. Want to amplify this process and keep your body energized? Enter a fat burner. This will help keep your mood and energy levels high while aiding in MORE fat loss.

Example: Super HD Powder

Cellucor Super HD Powder

3. Mass Gainers (for muscle building)

When in Intermittent Fasting, it becomes very difficult to get enough calories to be in a caloric surplus. The purpose of the window is to keep calories at a minimum while maximizing the nutrient absorption. If you are able to get enough calories, then you will be able to maximize your gains. This is where a great tasting lean mass gainer would be ideal. It will be just enough so you can add it in between meals and give yourself 300-900 calories extra for muscle building.

Example: Betancourt Lean Gainz

4. Pre Workout

If you IF and workout in the morning, you will NEED some pre. You will need that kick in the gym since you are in a fasted state. You will just need to be careful and find a pre-workout that has 0 calories.

Example: The FUEL Pre Workout by the geniuses here at CP

5. Multi Vitamin

As mentioned above, it is very difficult to get 3 meals in your eating window. The diet allows you to restrict calories, which means a restriction of meals. This can lead to people missing out on some essential muscle building nutrients or vitamins. Taking a daily multi vitamin will be key to staying healthy while intermittent fasting

Example: Rule1 R1 Train Daily

Does a fat burner (powder) break a fast?

  • Jeff

Looking for a pre workout that won’t break a fast. Was wondering if I can take the bcaa’s with the fuel. My workout window is 9-11am which my fast ends at 11. Trying new pre workout now but was told it’s breaking my fast. Weight loss has hit a wall as well. Also heard that calorie intake is what really matters, is that true? Thanks

Okay I really don’t want to offend yall cause I’m sure you are all awesome people so I hope I didn’t come across as rude:)

there is scientific evidence that the lysine in the bcaa breaks your fast because it basically tells your brain you are fed but tbh I don’t think it makes all that much of a difference.

Great info! Just one question, won’t the flavouring in the BCAA’s, fat burner, and the pre workout break your fast?
