What is CBD and is CBD safe?
2019 is a weird year for supplements. We live in a world where the energy drink is king of well...energy and the cannabis plant is the hottest thing. Protein is still the same but CBD is taking this world by storm. The problem with CBD is that it is really hard to understand, Is it weed? Will it fail a drug test? Is it safe? How does it work?
What Is It
Cannabidiol or CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis (same plant that makes weed). CBD is a safe and non-addictive substance and is considered a phytocannabinoids due to its unique therapeutic profile. This means that because of the medicinal effect of CBD and its lack of anything addictive, people can use it for therapy.
Unlike its famous counterpart THC, CBD does not have a psychedelic aspect to it or make the user feel high. The way people spew the bro-science is that it's all the benefits of weed without the “getting high” part...which is kinda true. CBD is actually more because it is a concentrated version of the “good stuff” leading to so much healing for the body.
How It Works
All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce cannabinoids in the bloodstream which affect the endocannabinoid system which is the bodies regulator. The endocannabinoid system keeps the body in homeostasis from external factors...aka the stressors of life.
The human body produces certain cannabinoids on it’s own and has two receptors for cannabinoids, CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. These receptors deal with coordination, movement, pain, appetite, memory, inflammation, and other immune factors. When you take CBD, you are aiding the body in building these areas. This is why CBD has SOOO many benefits.
Difference Between CBD & THC
Although THC and CBD are both found in the cannabis plant, there is a difference between CBD and THC
- THC is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, the part that makes people feel high.
- CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid of cannabis. Because it is not psychoactive, it doesn’t produce the high associated with THC. CBD can be made from marijuana or hemp, which are both parts of the Cannabis family.
Both compounds interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system and stimulate the CB1 receptors in the brain. They have the same molecular structure, but their atoms are arranged differently, which impacts how they affect the human body. The primary difference between CBD and THC is that one is psychoactive and the other is not. THC stimulates the brain a lot more than CBD which affects it minimally.
Will You Fail a Drug Test
When you take a CBD product, there should be less than .3% THC in the product or 0% THC in the product. This will make sure you are safe for any and all drug tests. If your employer or team is very strict on weed, I would consult with the team and doctors before trying any CBD products. Even though they are super effective, it's just not worth it.
Is CBD Safe
CBD has been being used for hundreds of years due to its safe properties and healing benefits. It is something that is still very new when looking at mass-market consumption. The FDA does not regulate it but if you are buying from a trusted company such as Green Roads, you will be in good hands. Just like any supplement, we sell here at Campus Protein, you should not take it under the age of 18, if you are nursing and always be careful of abusing it. We always suggest consulting a doctor if ever on the fence about taking anything.
