What are the Benefits to Drinking Water
1.If you don't drink water you will die...end of the article.
Okay, seriously, we obviously know that but how does staying hydrated benefit us and why is it so important?
How much water do you need to drink in a day?
Have you ever heard that 8 glasses a day is the recommended amount? Well, that is 1000% a myth and actually came from a marketing campaign for a water beverage company. Its crazy how that is even possible but its true. If you do not believe me, look it up.
Here are some tricks to find out exactly how much water you should be consuming.
- Drink at least a gallon of water (a gallon is 128 fl oz or 8 water bottles) a day and hope its enough. It should be but if you are over 200lbs or very active or have a high sodium diet, it may not be.
- Use your weight and multiply it by .67 and then add 30oz to every hour you workout
- Example: 150lbs x .67 = 101oz + 30oz (hr workout) = 130oz daily
Okay, that makes sense...now what else gets affected when you drink your water?
Physical Performance
When you are properly hydrated, you can perform better during workouts which will improve endurance, and reduce fatigue.
Clear Head, Full Water, Can’t Lose
It has been proven that water can increase positive emotion and overall mood. On top of that, it can be a great focal agent. When you are hydrated, it's easier for the body to focus on the tasks at hand.
The Big One: Weight Loss
Water is calorie free...duhh! You think that is obvious but there are so many people out there that consume sugary beverages. By just replacing those, you can experience great weight loss and overall health benefits.
Also, water can be used as an appetite suppressant. A lot of the time, thirst gets misunderstood as hunger causing people to eat when they are actually full. Next time you feel hungry, try downing a glass of water and waiting 5 minutes to see if its actual hunger.
Finally, the act of drinking water before a meal fills your stomach up making it harder to overeat. This plus the improvement to your GI tract are all great reasons to drink water before meals.
By drinking your water daily, you can prevent so many health risks, aid in weight loss, and even help your skin out too. So make sure you are counting every glass of water you consume and remember that every supplement you take makes you drink around 20oz of water ;)
